Dark Circles

Dark circles usually show signs of tiredness. They are characterized by the dark shade that settles over the eyes and are divided into three types, according to their characteristics. They may be structural, vascular and melanic.

Structural dark circles are genetic, and can be formed because of rapid weight loss or natural aging. When a person loses weight very quickly, the tissue in the area shrinks and a shadow forms there, deepening the appearance of “sunken eyes”. Aging, in turn, causes loss of support in the bones of the face, deepening the grooves under the eyes.

Vascular dark circles are slightly bluish in color and are caused by fluid retention. They are a sign that microcirculation is impaired. When the skin is very thin and there are pockets and puffiness, the look of tiredness that dark circles produce is even worse.

Brown in color, melanic dark circles are caused by the accumulation of natural melanin pigment around the eyes. More common in dark-skinned people, they can get worse because of excessive sun exposure and hormonal changes.

Pulsed light

Female > Facial Treatments

A device with a tip that emits high energy light and rapid pulses, it is recommended to treat various skin imperfections – including dark circles. It acts at different skin depths, from pigments to collagen and blood vessels. It can be used to treat vascular dark circles only, but also to correct skin imperfections in other parts of the body.

Post-treatment: Mild burning and redness that can last from 2 to 24 hours.

Protocol: At physician’s discretion

Result: Gradual,  between 1 and 2 weeks after procedure.

Peeling

Female > Facial Treatments

It is a technique recommended to stimulate cell renewal. Through natural, mechanical or chemical agents, peeling causes exfoliation of the skin, eliminating its most superficial part, the epidermis. The goal is to stimulate the rapid formation of new layer in its place, which always happens from the inside out, from the dermis to the epidermis.

For the treatment of dark circles, especially melanic dark circles, which have excess melanin pigment, peeling helps lighten this area of the skin, eliminating blemishes and shading. This is because exfoliation stimulates the rapid formation of new layer in its place.

The intensity of the peel varies between superficial, medium or deep. Only the doctor is able to recommend peelings, because it is necessary to be precise about the depth conditions of the skin, characteristic that varies from person to person. In case of inaccuracy in the exfoliation process, excessive peeling can cause infections and leave scars.

Post-treatment: At medical discretion.

Protocol: At physician’s discretion.

Result: On average, 1 week after 1st session.
