Blemishes

(Melasma and white freckles)

Skin blemishes have different causes and appearances. The most common are melasmas, white freckles and age spots.

Melasma is a dark spot, most common on the face, although it can also appear on the arms, neck and lap. It affects women more often in about 90% of cases. It does not have a definite cause, but it is related to the use of female contraceptives, pregnancy and, mainly, sun exposure.

The triggering factor is exposure to ultraviolet rays and even visible light. Genetic predisposition influences its emergence. Men rarely have melasma.

There are three types of melasma. The epidermal, or superficial, with melanin accumulation in the epidermis; the dermal, characterized by the deposition of pigments around the superficial and deep vessels, which is the most difficult to treat; and the mixed, with excess pigment in the epidermis and dermis, also difficult to treat. Thyroid disease, genetic predisposition and liver disease are also determining factors for its onset. Allergy-causing cosmetics are aggravating to melasma cases.

White freckles, called Leucodermia by doctors, are whitish patches that appear on areas that are exposed to the sun, especially on the forearms and legs. They are common in the population and attributed to cumulative damage caused by lifetime exposure to ultraviolet rays.

Senile patches in brown tones also result from exposure of the skin to sunlight for years. These spots intensify with age and result from the body’s inability to filter out defective cells and generate a natural defense against solar radiation that has been accumulating for decades on the skin.

Another wide variety of blemishes can be caused by injuries, insect bites, beats, burns, scars, allergies, pregnancy hormonal imbalances or genetic factors. They are usually purple, pink or brown, resulting from the accumulation of melanin in the area.

Tratamentos:

Clear & Brilliant®

Clinical Dermatology > Blemishes

Composed of two low intensity diode lasers, it is recommended  for facial rejuvenation. It promotes collagen stimulation, reduces wrinkles and superficial lines, minimizes pores, restores skin’s radiance, radiance and smoothness.

By having a more superficial acting, it increases skin permeability for greater penetration of active ingredients (Drug Delivery), besides being less aggressive.

Post-treatment: Normal life, mild redness for 6 to 12 hours.

Protocol: Between 4 and 6 sessions, biweekly.

Result: Gradual, from the first session.

Pulsed Light

Clinical Dermatology > Blemishes

A device that emits pulses of light, which are absorbed by the stain pigments present in some inflamed cells. These are then destroyed by the action of the equipment, the pigment inside dissolves and the spots diminish significantly.

Post-treatment: Mild burning and redness that takes 2 to 24 hours.

Protocol: Number of sessions depends on evaluation.

Result: 1 week after treatment ends, skin tone returns to normal.

Micro-needling

Clinical Dermatology > Blemishes

Through microneedles that superficially puncture the skin, small infections form that induce collagen production. The action promotes reduction of blemishes and other skin imperfections. The technique uses its own regeneration of body and skin to improve its appearance.

Post-treatment: Slight redness and swelling lasting 24 hours.

Protocol: 4 sessions, monthly.

Result: Between 2 and 3 months after the first session.

MMP

Clinical Dermatology > Blemishes

Technique to facilitate entry and enhance the penetration of specific active ingredients. Micro-perforations are performed to overcome the skin’s natural barrier, to then deliver medicines that will reach the skin faster and more concentrated inside the skin. For white freckles that appear on arms and legs, micro-infusion of specific medications encourages the return of natural pigmentation.

Post-treatment: No downtime.

Protocol: 3 sessions, monthly.

Result: 2 months, after 1st session.
