Perspiration

Sweating is a natural reaction of the body. Especially on hot days, during physical activities or unexpected stress situations, anger, nervousness and fear. Under normal conditions, sweating is even important to help maintain body temperature at appropriate levels.

The problem is excessive sweating, produced even in physical rest. The imbalance occurs when the sweat glands expel much larger than normal amounts, a fact known as hyperhidrosis. People who have hyperhidrosis are anxious, have the uncomfortable feeling of having their skin luscious, their clothes wet, and living in social embarrassment to the point where their self-esteem is affected.

The body parts most sensitive to hyperhidrosis are armpits, hands, face, head, soles and groin. The causes may be hereditary, emotional, thyroid-related, psychiatric illness, menopause, and obesity. There are two types of hyperhidrosis: focal, which appears in childhood or adolescence; and the generalized secondary, caused by medical condition or side effect to some medication, common in adulthood.

Botulinum toxin

Clinical Dermatology > Perspiration

Botulinum toxin is the substance responsible for the major revolution in Cosmiatry treatments. With a recommendation for rejuvenation, it is also a highly effective and safe alternative for the treatment of hyperhidrosis. By blocking sweat stimulation near the glands, botulinum toxin temporarily reduces sweat production for a period ranging from 4 to 10 months. The transient chemical suppression of sweating with botulinum toxin creates safety, since the patient is aware of “being able to stop sweating when he wants”, simply reapplying the toxin, a privilege that was not previously possessed. This causes the vicious circle to break because the initial trigger for sweating is disabled. We use 3 brands of toxin to treat hyperhidrosis. They are: Botox® manufactured by the Allergan laboratory; Dysport® manufactured by Ipsen lab and Xeomin® manufactured by Merz lab.

This procedure is performed in the clinic, using anesthetic ointment. The application takes on average 20 minutes for the armpit and 40 minutes for the hands. The return to professional activities can be immediate, and the practice of physical exercises the day after the application.

Post-treatment: Normal life.

Protocol: 1 session, every 6 months.

Result: 3 days after the session.
